Nick, known formally as George Lawrence Rice, IV, is a third-generation attorney following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Mr. Rice brings discipline, experience, expertise and compassion to the practice of family law. Believing we need discipline to effectively pursue client goals, experience to know what is possible, expertise to get the best results for our client, and compassion to understand the importance to each individual client.

Mr. Rice started studying the law in the seventh grade by learning to pull cases for his father’s legal research. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School where he served four years on the Honor Council.

Mr. Rice graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2000. He returned to Memphis to attend law school, resume working at the firm, and continued to study the legal community in which he would practice. Mr. Rice received his J.D. from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2003.

Because of his extensive training, he practiced law immediately after passing the bar. Following in his father’s footsteps, he also presents Continuing Legal Education lectures to other attorneys. In addition to trying cases, Mr. Rice uses his experience and knowledge as a Supreme Court Rule 31 Family Law Mediator to solve cases without the matter going to trial.

In 2021 Mr. Rice put his experience and knowledge to the test of national-level review in becoming a Board Certified Family Law Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. The elaborate screening of credentials that Mr. Rice had to successfully complete included, but was not limited to; demonstrated and substantial trial experience, submission of judges’ and other attorneys attesting to his ability, legal writing submissions, and passing rigorous examination.

Among all the other awards and honors Mr. Rice has achieved, National Board of Trial Advocacy Certification was the most important to him. Board Certification is the highest, most stringent, and most reliable qualification an attorney can achieve. The NBTA is committed to safeguarding the public’s ability to choose the best attorney. This certification is objective proof that potential clients should rely on when choosing an attorney.

Mr. Rice served on the Executive Council for the Family Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association in 2010, the same year that he was named one of Memphis’ Finest Young Professionals by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Mr. Rice is rated an excellent 10 out of 10 on Avvo.com. Mr. Rice serves on the Board of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Alumni Association.

Mr. Rice received membership into the invitation-only American Society of Legal Advocates, was named a Mid-South Super Lawyer Rising Star for 7 years, and received multiple America’s Most Honored Professionals Awards. Mr. Rice received America’s Most Honored Professional’s Top 5% Award for continuous professional recognition and accomplishment for 2 years running prior to moving up and being awarded the Top 1% Award. The National Academy of Family Law Attorneys recognized Mr. Rice with the Top Ten Under 40 Award. Since becoming 40, Mr. Rice has collected several Top Ten Attorney Awards from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys. Mr. Rice was designated and received the Premier 100 Award from the National Academy of Jurisprudence. The American Registry recognized Mr. Rice as one of the Memphis Area’s Outstanding Young Lawyers in Family Law.

Mr. Rice is the co-author of “The Complete Guide to Divorce Practice” published by the American Bar Association.
